A new season does for the fashion industry also mean new collections on the runway, new clothing in the stores, and new trends in the streets, and this winter, it is all about the shoes. Crazy shoes, colourful shoes, transparent shoes. You can even look forward to seeing tons of shoes made in velvet, denim, and my personal favourite; furry shoes which are currently appearing everywhere.
However, with the trends constantly changing it can be hard to keep up with what is worth investing in, and what is just a one-time fluke.
In this post I have collected five shoes which are definitely worth investing in this winter.
First off we have the over-the-knee boots. Over-the-knee boots are a great way to turn an otherwise boring outfit into something super chic and stylish. They also makes your legs look miles long, which of course is always a good thing. The trend first started out with Stuart Weitzman, the absolute king of over-the-knee boots, but quickly made its way to high street stores such as Zara, Topshop and H&M. Today mostly every brand, which deals in shoes, has made some kind of edition of the infamous over-the-knee boots. The over-the-knee boots trend started already in the beginning of 2015, but has only grown bigger since then, and I cannot see it disappearing anytime soon, definitely something worth investing in.
Another type of shoes you need in your wardrobe this winter is the sock booties. Contrary to over-the-knee boots, the sock booties are a completely new trend, yet a trend that I do not see leaving us anytime soon. The sock boots first appeared in one of Kanye West’s Yeezy collections, but has as anything else Kanye have ever done been mass-produced ever since the originals were showcased at New York fashion week. The boots are today being sold in many different variations, by tons of different brands worldwide.
Thirdly we have the loafers. Loafers have for the last couple of moths been the number one go-to for it-girls, fashion icons and style influencers. The loafer trend started at the same time the men’s clothing trend were at its absolute peek, but stayed on as a big part of the fashion scene even after men’s clothing became a last-years trend. Gucci of course was the first brand to utilise, and for real trend-set the loafers, and still are the leading producer when it comes to the super cool shoes. However, I do predict many other brands will start designing their own version of the loafers, offering us all some more affordable loafer options.
Another shoe trend to keep up with this winter is the high-top sneakers. The high-top sneakers are like every other winter before this a major must-have. Even the most fashionable person needs some comfort from time to time, and even though they may be super stylish, you do not get a lot of comfort from heeled shoes. The high-tops are definitely more winter appropriate than the classic low cut sneakers, and are specially great paired with a pair of classic jeans, be it skinny, mom or boyfriend. If ever in doubt about the high-top sneakers, you can always go for the high-top converse, a true classic.
Last on the list of shoes you need in your wardrobe this winter is block heels. For many years block heels have been reserved for prissy librarians in old high school movies, but lately they have been to see everywhere, and on all types of shoes. Although the tendency has been rather slow in becoming a full-blown trend, now that it is here, I do not see it leaving quite yet. You can say a lot about the block heel, but it is definitely kinder to your feet than the classic heel would be, and therefore also makes great work shoes.
