London is an amazing city, which can be a problem if you’re only there for a weekend and don’t have time to experience everything. I recently spend 3 days in London, and have here collected three things that I would definitely recommend for anyone going to London for their first time. I have also included a few extra recommendations in the end of the post.
Sketch is a famous restaurant in the center of London which truly offers amazing food. However, the food may not necessarily be why you visit as it is mainly known for their interior decor, and just generally the vibe of the restaurant. The whole room is decorated in pink, there is the most amazing art on the walls, the china is designed by a famous english artist, and there is even a live string quartet playing while you eat.
Little side note: With the place being as popular as it is you generally do need to make reservations several weeks in advance, so do take note of that. Also, I’m not gonna lie, the place is definitely on the pricey side, but it is so worth it.
Harry Potter Studio Tour
The Harry Potter Studio Tour was such a highlight on the trip and definitely something I would recommend to other people! And if you are under the perception that you have to be a huge huge Harry Potter fan to enjoy it, I’m here to tell you that’s definitely not the case. I’ve seen all the movies, but only ever read the first book and haven’t ever been the biggest fan, yet I still though it was such a great experience to get to see all the behind-the-scene things and movie props.
Who should go: You may think that since it’s Harry Potter it’s a more ‘childish’ activity, however, I would actually say that it is probably a much greater experience for kids over the age of 13 and of course adults, since a lot of it is reading and watching interviews with the creators of the movies.
Little side notes: The studio tour is located outside London, so you do more or less need to take a whole day out of your schedule to do this.
Tate Modern is a stunning gallery in the center of London. The art is absolutely amazing, both the permanent and temporary exhibitions. Even if you don’t have a huge interest in art you should definitely visit Tate simply to eat at the restaurant at the top floor which has the most amazing view of London. Such a beautiful thing to experience, and truly great food to a pretty decent price.
Little side note: The book section at the museum shop is absolutely amazing, so if you do visit Tate you should definitely stop by. I ended up buying four books last time I was there.
Other things to do in London
Harrods is of course a must for high end shopping, and if you have time you absolutely have try Godiva, a chocolate cafe inside Harrods, which have the most amazing chocolate fondue. Seeing Big Ben and Buckingham Palace is other tourist attractions that may be fun to stop by. Regent and Oxford street are also sorta mandatory places to do some shopping. And lastly of course Hyde Park.
