Life is stressful
Life is stressful, sometimes more than it probably should be. Keeping up with studies and part-time jobs, taking care of study loans AND having a social life is though. It is therefore so incredibly important to take some time out for yourself. Doing a little something for yourself every day is a great way to make sure you don’t end up having a serious break-down. One way to begin doing so is by trying out this selfcare challenge.
How it works
The selfcare challenge last for one month, and every day you do something that is designed to make you feel better. There is a new activity every day, which means that you won’t be doing the same thing twice. Doing a challenge like this is a great way to try out different selfcare activities, to figure out what works best for you. This then gives you the chance to introduce more of your preferred activity into your daily routine.
The activities can roughly be broken down into 5 categories.
A great and very obvious way of distressing is relaxation. The activities that belong to this category includes ‘taking a power nap’, ‘reading for pleasure’, ‘lightning candles’, and ‘listening to classical music’.
Introducing some exercise into your schedule can also be an awesome way of taking care of your own health, both physically and mentally. This doesn’t mean that you have to practice hardcore sport on a high level, in fact, low intensity exercise might be even more healthy. Some of the activities in this category includes ‘meditation’, ‘yoga’, ‘going for a walk’ and ‘going for a bikeride’.
Including positivity into your life is an important part of selfcare. This can stem from creative activity, eating good food, or taking some time to reassess the things that make you truly happy. Some of the activities from the selfcare challenge that fits in this category is; ‘making a list of people you’re grateful for’, ‘visiting a museum’, ‘reading a motivational article’, and ‘making a playlist with songs that make you smile’.
Ducks in a row
One way of decreasing the stress in your life, is removing some of the things that are known to be stress factors, such as messes in the home. The activities under this category includes ‘spending half an hour decluttering’ and ‘cleaning out your workspace’.
Health through food
There are more and more experts coming out and saying that what you eat relate to how you feel. Your energy levels and feeling of health can definitely be modified by eating healthy. Meanwhile, eating something you love, spoiling yourself with food, can release endorphins increasing your feeling of wellbeing. This category incldues the activities; ‘eating vegan’, ‘doing a juice cleanse’, and ‘eating your favourite meal’.
after finishing the self-care challenge
When you’re done with the one month selfcare challenge you need to sit down and think about the activities that made you feel better and allowed you to live a less stressful life. This way you may take the specific activities and make sure to include them in your life going forward, or you can figure out which category/categories that fits best with your personality or lifestyle, and design some new activities to introduce into your life.
